Bathing Beauty

This last week I gave Whitney her first real bath. Ya, I know what you're thinking...she's already a month old and it's a little late to have her first bath! Don't worry, she got sponge bath wipe downs all the time for her first month, so she didn't stink or have mold growing on her or anything gross like that. Well, to tell you the truth, I was a little scared to do it because I've never bathed a newborn before. What if she slipped out of my hands or the water was too hot or she screamed and hated it the whole time?! To my surprise, Whitney loved the bath! She sat there in the warm water and looked around wide-eyed. After she was all clean, I wrapped her in a towel and then she peed (all over herself and me) and then I put her back in the bath water to get he clean again. Since Whitney liked the bath so much I think I will do it more then just once a month! ;o)

Sleep Training

For Whitney's first three weeks she was sleeping in the bed with me, and Brig was on the couch. Last Monday night we decided to start training her to sleep in her own bed all because I started reading this book "On Becoming Baby Wise" and it's supposed to help train an infant to sleep through the night by the time they're eight weeks old. The first night we tried it she cried for what seemed like forever; I cried too. We were in our bed just listening to her, I should have left or distracted myself somehow. It was really hard not to go pick her up a hold her. Well, now a week later, Whitney is doing much better about sleeping in her own bed. I lay her down and she might cry for a little bit, but she usually goes right to sleep! I'm feeling much more rested because at night she'll sleep for 4 to 5 hours at a time, so I'm able to get a better night's sleep. I hope she really will sleep all the way through the night in another 4 weeks of training.

Parenting 101

These last few weeks I've been having a hands-on experience in my Parenting 101 class. I thought that being a mom would be a breeze because I thought I had a lot of experience with kids and babies. I've baby-sat, I worked at my parents' day-care, and I was a nanny for several different families in college. So I guess you get the point that I've been around kids my whole life but, it's different to have my own. I have to confess that actually having my own baby and being totally responsible for her is something that I really couldn't have prepared for. The only way to know what parenting is all about is to actually become a parent, and I'm glad I did!!!

click, click, snap, snap...

I know you think we are obsessing about taking pictures of our presious baby...well we are. We got glamour shots taken of Whitney from a lady in our ward. She took at least 500 pictures, so be prepared to see a lot more soon. She is trying to build her portfolio to get customers so she took the pics and edited them for free! Yeah, it was really nice of her.

Whitney Madeline Dunn

We finally named the baby! She's still being sweet after being home a few days. We are so happy with her. She only cries when she's getting her diaper changed or hungry. I'm sure that will change, but for now Whitney has been a really nice baby!!
